i typed out the following draft on valentines day:
i'm on the second evening of (water only) fasting, and the two days before i ate nothing but apples. i really didn't even know if i would make it through a day of apples only, but so far so good. if nothing else, the experience has given me a new appreciation of food and the whole ordeal of eating. but combined with saunas every second day i'm sure it has been pretty detoxifying.
oli and finn are in on this too, so today we picked up a few tropical treats to break the fast with gradually; avocados, mangos, pineapple. i am so stoked.
in other semi-exciting news, we decided to take our fridge out of the house, at least for the winter, but i actually hope it's for forever.
apparently you can put blocks of ice in your root cellar, cover them with straw or sawdust and they will stay frozen all summer. if we had some more seriously cold weather we could give that a try.
and an update from today, today:
i ended up doing a one day fast yesterday with paul. i think a few one day fasts a month during the winter are a pretty good thing. helps break up the routine and gives a chance to think about your relationship with food.
starting to get ready for spring; we cleaned out the greenhouse and started some onions in the kitchen.
a few of us from the farm are taking a Secwepemc language class at this amazing school, and i'm really enjoying it. Secwepemctsín is the language of the Shushwap people of this area. last night we started telling (really simple) stories ourselves and it was great.
here are a few words i know and like:
st̓cétkwe - broth
xqweltálkweten - telephone (thing for communicating)
ts̓kméke7 - beak of a bird (like they use their hands for)

summer time!
i'm in a great neighbourhood but i wish it was flatter. hah. i live on top of a big hill. WAY too steep to board down and kinda steep for my bike to get up.
unrelatedly, my life is weird right now. my work life, my lust/love/crush/ life both feel kinda... wrong? but, only a week until the WBF assessment... and only... 4 years until the end of the world..
good things:
- i'm getting rid of my car at the end of the month. good riddance dead weight.
- i made a budget
- i signed up for spud organic grocery delivery service
- assess assess assessment

the go in the go-for-it
phewf, what a week.
• started my job at the drug store - apparently doodling is NOT allowed
• had my first class of screen printing, which was so fun i said "this is FUN!" during the first project. a guy in my group, james agreed, and at the end he and our other group member, doug, high fived. but, there are no crush prospects in the class.
• made lunch every day for work (except for my trade day - mat made pizza subs mmm)
• i haven't been running - no time, too cold.
• finally went to broken city
• i bought a bus pass for february, but i can't find it now. guh-reat.
plus, the weekend.
• had caylie over and told her about zodiac signs and the science of sweating.
• bought the best socks ever
EDIT: here are some photos, weekend aftermath. my camera blows and i didn't get a good picture of all the embroidery hoop crafts we made, so take my word for it, they look super cute as a set. there's also some buttons i spilled after caylie left, our piles of sculpey crap, wonderful tea, and my amazing socks (me and the socks had a total photo shoot, i love them so much!).

don't! don't drink poison!
i never officially posted them, and resolutions are predictable, but i did make a few resolvations for oh eight - here's how they have been going so far:
1. pack a lunch for work every day possible
- this week i brought a lunch EVERY day! memorable meal items have included a tofurkey hot dog, a rice/tomato soup combo, and a buttload of salad.
2.....actually... i think the lunch thing was it.
i guess i also want to craft more & spend less time on facebook. um... and quit smoking?...and live every day like its my last?... and dance like no one is watching?
in other news, my plant is dying.
before & after:

please say a prayer.

"don't say i didn't warn you"

i got some great advice from a library book today:
TURTLE KEEPING IN GENERAL
If you plan to keep turtles as pets, there are a few hazards you must be aware of. The first is tied to the diet of some terrestrial species. If a turtle that is accustomed to eating mushrooms consumes a poisonous mushroom and you eat the turtle, you could end up with mushroom poisoning. I know of only one recorded instance in the history of mankind, so your risk is somewhat remote, but don't say I didn't warn you.
- from the introduction to Turtles by Mervin F. Roberts (1988)
