big fines

i can't believe this shit, BUT it's true.
i am no longer welcome at the library. ME?!

don't worry, i'll keep brakes on my other bike for big hills

maybe it's NOT officially fall.... YESSSSSS.

i finally paid the huge fine i've had on my library card all summer. it was up to $36. yikes. i'm happy to be back on track, i realized when i was there how much i missed the library. they are actually going to be tearing down my library in not too long as they are building a new, futuristic one a few blocks over. kind of sad...

SO i was doing some volunteering at the Good Life (Bike Shop) a few days ago and long story short, i found a new bike. yayayay. it's a glittery green apollo, just my size, that the greaser was going to turn into a single speed anyway. i jumped in there and so far i took out the extra chain rings, removed all the shifters and gear bullshit, put new VELVET bar tape on it, and put a new chain on it. there is still some work to do... like take off the brakes, because ima gunna fixie it!

the new stopping technique i must learn and perfect so i don't die:

goodbye pierre, hello pandas.

things are back to normal; the apartment is back to double occupancy only; ONE english person and ONE french person; the way it should be (not to mention ONE male and ONE female... a couple, that kind of thing).

i got the most hilarious DVD today from the "New and Notable" section. ULTIMATE PANDAS. "Enjoy 90 minutes of panda watching and cutest panda moments."

anyway...how are you?

i AM a library lover

just when i think i've tapped out all the good stuff at the library, they blow my mind! i got a great haul from the library today, all stuff i JUST put on hold yesterday! check it:

the rapture - pieces of people we love
out hud - let us never speak of it again
p:ano - brigadoon
fiery furnaces - rehearsing my choir
fiery furnaces - blueberry boat
the klaxons - myths of the near future
final fantasy - he poos clouds
the shout out louds - our ill wills

plus stuff coming by the go team, the eels, times new viking, !!!, vampire weekend, the great lake swimmers, m. ward, les savy fav, black mountain, kate nash, st. vincent, hot chip... i could go on! seriously, when did the library get SO hip? i'll just keep dropping more names of great stuff i've gotten: devendra banhart, the yeah yeah yeahs, the jackson 5, corb lund, lcd soundsystem, caribou....

no, the library doesn't pay me to talk about them constantly... convincing people to get library cards is its own reward... i wish somebody would get one already.

i had the day off from job #1 today so i spent it walking around 17th, trying not to spend money. but i did buy jane vain & the dark matter's cd (i don't JUST steal music).

"don't say i didn't warn you"

i
got some great advice from a library book today:

TURTLE KEEPING IN GENERAL
If you plan to keep turtles as pets, there are a few hazards you must be aware of. The first is tied to the diet of some terrestrial species. If a turtle that is accustomed to eating mushrooms consumes a poisonous mushroom and you eat the turtle, you could end up with mushroom poisoning. I know of only one recorded instance in the history of mankind, so your risk is somewhat remote, but don't say I didn't warn you.
- from the introduction to Turtles by Mervin F. Roberts (1988)
