i AM a library lover

just when i think i've tapped out all the good stuff at the library, they blow my mind! i got a great haul from the library today, all stuff i JUST put on hold yesterday! check it:

the rapture - pieces of people we love
out hud - let us never speak of it again
p:ano - brigadoon
fiery furnaces - rehearsing my choir
fiery furnaces - blueberry boat
the klaxons - myths of the near future
final fantasy - he poos clouds
the shout out louds - our ill wills

plus stuff coming by the go team, the eels, times new viking, !!!, vampire weekend, the great lake swimmers, m. ward, les savy fav, black mountain, kate nash, st. vincent, hot chip... i could go on! seriously, when did the library get SO hip? i'll just keep dropping more names of great stuff i've gotten: devendra banhart, the yeah yeah yeahs, the jackson 5, corb lund, lcd soundsystem, caribou....

no, the library doesn't pay me to talk about them constantly... convincing people to get library cards is its own reward... i wish somebody would get one already.

i had the day off from job #1 today so i spent it walking around 17th, trying not to spend money. but i did buy jane vain & the dark matter's cd (i don't JUST steal music).

"what are you guys talking about?" "nothing"

attention everyone,
i am going to be doing 10 km in the Walk for MS this summer and i need some pledges!
$$ click here $$ apparently it's really easy to make pledges online, but if you would rather gimme some cash in person that's cool.
i don't usually get into stuff like this, but i don't know, the brochure was speaking to me.... for example, canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world.
oh, and if you wanna sign up and do the walk too that would be rad.

-------------------

i'm feeling a bit off lately. earlier in the week, i discovered this program in edmonton provides trades training and employment support for women and was feeling such relief, like THIS is what i've been waiting for. work has been increasingly impossible. my brain won't focus, i can't get through any work and i feel like a fraud.
so in my excitement i started telling people about the program and how i've been considering trades for quite a while now. ugh, can you say social stigma! its 2008 people, i'm not automatically a lesbo for wanting to try welding or work with my hands for a living. guh, so anyways, i'm still going to a "information session" for the program in a few weeks, and we'll see what happens.

--------------------

attention everyone (again): video podcasts ARE the shit! i can watch the nightly news on the train! i'm getting pretty into these national geographic podcasts, as well as stand-up comedy ones.

--------------------

sighhhhh, i just gotta make it to amsterdam.

you just stay at home and play synthesizers

dan and i were recounting our crazy tile rummy game and i said "yea, that was a crazy game, i even blogged about it". i didn't want to actually tell him the address or name of my blog, and he joked he would google me or search my history to find it. so just in case he DID go to those lengths to track down my bloggy blog, i thought i'd send him a little shout out, so here goes:

FUCK YOU, CREEPY!

----------------------

i thought about my "career" a lot today. i realized i am ok not having a career. i just want a job. and i want a job where i can make something. with my hands even! this was kind of a breakthrough, but i still feel stuck. i need a plan. apparently the city of calgary categorizes me as a youth still, so i am going to see what career counseling is all about sometime next week. stay tuned!

simple minds do simple things

today was nice.

after work i picked up my car, and parked it. hopefully it'll be parked for a while.
i talked to bod on the phone a bit, and then rode my bike to chris' house. on the way i got my tires filled with air, and then went to burger inn with chris, ryan, and mat [what a crew of ordinary-named guys]. i got the harvest gold burger & a root beer. rode my bike home.
then dan came over and we played the most epic game of tile rummy ever.

good day.

time for bed.

three thoughts - cars.internet.money

---
yesterday when i was leaving work [on my way to 2nd work] somebody (MAT!!) wanted to make a pointless, UNfunny, UNuseful comment to me as i was about to pull out of the parking lot, so i rolled down my window. he made his comment, i rolled my eyes and then went to put the window back up... of COURSE my window wouldn't go back up. gahhh. i'm so MONSTERFUCKING sick of this!

i made a deal with myself - if i can get around without driving it in the next 32 days, i'm getting rid of it. i'm done with putting all this upkeep into this pollution machine because some people (ma&pa) can't comprehend life without a car. i'm an grown-up, and i'll own a car if i feel like it... and i don't... so eff you.

---

sometimes the internet is simply the best. today dan decided to try and track down somewhere that sells walkmen (walkmans?.. um.. portable cassette tape players). i posted "wanted: tape playin' walkman" on kijiji and within an hour - a reply!

does anyone remember "baby jessica" who got rescued from the pipe? i was only 2 when that happened, so it's weird that i remember but i decided to look her up today. that chick is cursed i think!

quotes from wikipedia & msnbc article:

McClure's rescue was mostly credited to Robert O'Donnell and William Andrew Glasscock Jr.. In 1995, O'Donnell shot himself after suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Former officer Glasscock is currently serving a 35-year sentence on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, sexual assault, and improper storage of explosives

whoa. curse!

She married Daniel Morales, 13 years her senior, in January 2006. Morales was convicted in 2002 of impersonating a federal marshal to steal money and drugs from drug dealers.

yup, curse.

But she’s still called “Baby Jessica.” That doesn’t bother her, she told Lauer, and referred to a character in a children’s book to explain why.

“Like they told Lil’ Bow Wow, you’ll never get rid of the ‘little’ part,” she said. “Cause you’ll always be what you are remembered as.”

what?? children's book?! who wrote this article? curs-ed.

i "commissioned" a pair of boots from this guy at the farmer's market. they are going to be totally custom - having the guy TRACE and measure my feet was such a good feeling! i am so excited to have shoes made for me, not off an assembly line in taiwan. it's really exciting. but i'm kind of broke now, so i reaaaaally hope they turn out.
